Wrinkles

Beauty & Health 1 Comment »

Wrinkles are folds and deformations of the skin that occur as a person ages. They are a cruel testimony to our age. With the passing of years, the skin begins losing elasticity and flexibility causing the appearance of lines or fine marks that later becomes wrinkles.

Principal causes:
As we age, sweat and sebaceous glands that for so long have provided moisture and oil for the skin, begin to wear out and stop working little by little which causes the skin to lose its elasticity and its moisture. This produces a dryness and cracking of the skin. The skin also begins to lose collagen. Collagen keeps the skin on the face and body in good shape. The lack of it causes sagging tissues, double chins, lines on the neck, around the mouth, and around the eyes (crows feet), and bags under the eyes, etc.

The destruction of collagen and other tissues is due to the presence of free radicals which are produced principally by the sun, the smog and an inhospitable environment.

List of principal Causes of Wrinkles:

a) Lack of moisture (dehydration).
b) Formation of free radicals that oxidize the tissues due to the sun rays (UV rays) which are strongest between 11:a.m. and 3;p.m.
c) Smog and a dry, damaging environment.
d) Facial expressions.
e) The rough surface of your pillowcase is another cause of wrinkles.
f)Lack of vitamins A, B, C, E as well as minerals.

Suggestion:

  • Avoiding excessive sun tanning is the most important way to avoid wrinkles.
  • cover your face with sunscreen protection.
  • wear sunglasses with larger lenses to block sun rays on the around the eyes.
  • drink a lit of water to rehydrate the skin, preferably drinking aloe/sfed musli juice
  • Use a pillow with a soft fabric or with your face upright. Try to make fewer facial gestures.
  • Massage the wrinkles with the palm of your hand softly for about 2 minutes on each part of the face to stimulate circulation.

Asthma Home Remedy - Honey and Ginger to Relieve Asthma

Beauty & Health No Comments »

There are many different triggers and causes of asthma. And just as there are many triggers and causes, there are also many different remedies. Some of these asthma home remedies involve consuming different combinations of food ingredients. Two of the most beneficial ingredients are honey and ginger.

Let’s take a look at some concoctions with honey and with ginger.

Honey as a Remedy

Honey is very good for asthma. Honey helps to thin the mucus in the body and helps get the mucus out of the respiratory system. As you probably already know, mucus accumulates in the breathing passages and blocks air flow in and out of the body. This can trigger or make an asthma attack worse.

You can either take the honey by mouth or you can just breathe in the honey if an attack is beginning.

Here are some mixtures (along with how often to take them) that combine honey with other ingredients:

* One teaspoon of honey with water every day.

* One teaspoon of warm water with one quarter teaspoon of turmeric powder twice a day.

* One teaspoon of honey with half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder once a day (either morning or night).

* One tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of drumstick leaves juice, one teaspoon small onion juice, and half a teaspoon of asafetida. Mix all these things together and consume twice a day.

Ginger as a Remedy

Ginger is also very good for asthma. Ginger powder negates the effects of Platelet-Activating Factors. This means the ginger powder stops inflammation.

When mixed with certain other ingredients, it also acts as an expectorant. This means that it helps you cough-up and get rid of mucus in your respiratory system.

Here are a few mixtures with ginger in them:

* One teaspoon of ginger with one cup of fenugreek concoction once a day.

* Fresh ginger juice mixed with honey taken once a day.

* Half a tea spoon of fresh ginger, one teaspoon cumin seeds, a pinch of nutmeg, and a glass of water. Combine everything and bring to a boil. Then drink hot.

The Effectiveness of Honey and Ginger

The effectiveness of honey and ginger as an asthma home remedy has been proven over and over. However, just as everyone’s asthma is triggered by something different, everyone’s asthma is effectively treated a little differently. Therefore, you will need to test to see which one or ones work best for you.

Overall, honey and ginger are two of the most effective ingredients that you can add to any concoction. Honey helps rid the respiratory system of mucus while ginger helps stop inflammation and also helps get rid of mucus when mixed with certain other ingredients.

Acne

Beauty & Health No Comments »

Acne is a small pocket of infected oil in the skin, produced by the sebaceous glands located in the chorium of the skin, which open into hair follicles. When this oil is trapped and infected it produced pimples known as acne.

Symptoms:

It generally occurs on the face and back and can become abscesses or deep infected lesions in the skin.

Causes:

The production of the hormone testosterone, in men as well as women (although it is greater in men), causes the sebaceous glands to grow, producing more oil. Meanwhile, the skin cells near the pore produce keratin. When these two substances mix, the greasy oil and keratin produce an amalgamation, which blocks the pore causing a blackhead. When the pore is plugged up due to this substance, bacteria begins to accumulate and grows. This inflames the area and forms a pimple(acne).

Tips For The Acne:

Wash your face with a balanced pH liquid soap or with face wash everyday, morning and night to remove the oil. (Dry your face with a paper towel, so that the skin is not contaminated again).

Apply cleanser for deep cleansing effect, which will remove dirt and oil from the deeper layers of skin.

After that use toner which will close the pore and improve the texture of the skin.

Thereafter use the oil free moisturizer as per the type of skin is a must

In addition it is suggested:

To eliminate as much as sugar and flour as possible, as well as fried foods, butter, chocolate and whole milk.

Increase the consumption of fiber, as well as yogurt, which cleans the stomach and intestine ( Shankh prakshalan-under the guidance of a trained person).

Avoid the use of greasy creams or cosmetics

Avoid soaps that contain sulfides, iodine, bromides or oil

Warning

If one or more pimples are very red and the area becomes inflamed and sensitive to the touch you may have a serious infection. consult your physician.

Facial Skin Care

Beauty & Health No Comments »

A smooth, glowing facial skin is one of the first things one notices about a well groomed person. Unfortunately few of us are blessed with such a good skin type. Most of us have to follow a routine to keep our skin healthy. Even though it is not completely possible to change our skin color or skin type we can make the best of what we have.

We are born with a perfect, smooth skin, free of wrinkles, marks, scars, blemishes etc. A total disregard for skin care and undisciplined lifestyle will place extra wear and tear on the skin and in the process it will have adverse effects on the skin, which results in a tired, unhealthy and wrinkly looking skin. Without proper care, not only will wrinkles form, but one will have a blotchy and un-toned complexion, and there is a greater chance for the skin to bag and sag.

Firstly in facial skin care, we need to identify and treat the skin problems early. Ignoring skin problems like acne, dark circles, pigmentation, black heads, enlarged pores, cosmetic or sun allergies can often lead to dark and lusterless skin. The general tendency is to wait for these diseases to resolve on their own with age and time. However, some of these diseases can leave behind an altered skin texture or permanent scarring. Proper facial skin care can prevent these conditions from becoming chronic and resistant. The skin is constantly excreting body toxins given which a scrupulous cleansing and exfoliating routine is a must for all skin types. But one must be careful and look out for incompatible or harsh products which can do more harm than good to the facial skin. It is equally important to keep the make up tools clean as they often carry bacteria and can cause skin irritation and acne break outs. Therefore it is vital to develop a healthy skin care routine to enjoy long lasting benefits.

Dry skin problems aggravate during winter due to poor hydration of the skin. Water should not be substituted with alcohol, coffee or soft drinks. Avoid excessive smoking as it can cause your skin to look dull, dry and leathery. Consume fruits and vegetables instead of grease laden burgers, chips and junk food. A good exercise program like aerobics can rejuvenate the skin by improving the blood supply. In short, eat and drink sensibly and exercise regularly .That will complete your facial skin care routine which will reward you in the long run.

Good facial skin care is essential for a youthful looking skin and face. Our skin needs adequate moisture for facial health. We should not only take care of our facial skin to remain younger looking, but also to ensure the continued health of our skin. A good skin care schedule need not take hours every day, but must be followed every day, without any neglect. Last but not the least, a smiling, pleasant, relaxed expression is good for our face and will help keep us looking younger.

Gray hair grows in many people once they reach a certain age. It can however make you look older than you really are.

Interesting note:

Hair can tell us a lot about nutrition, to the extent that you can know what a person generally was and what he ate or drank even hundreds of years after his death . Using advanced technology, forensic doctors utilize hair analysis to help discover if a person died of poisoning.

Symptoms:

Gray hair on the body or head that begins to show little by little as a person ages.Causes : Hair is made mostly of proteins . Within these proteins there is a substance that is responsible for the color or hair. It is called melanin. Melanin in dark hair is the same as that in blond hair. It is the amount of melanin present that accounts for the different colors of hair. Dark hair has more melanin than lightly colored hair, With age and time the amount of melanin present in hair diminishes, giving way to the appearance of gray hair. When there no melanin, the hair becomes white.

Suggestion:

Some substances exit that, when combined with the proteins in the hair, can produce the same results that melanin produces ( according to literature of the Com be Laboratories International, Ltd.) However, the body can slow the effects of hair loss and graying if it has adequate nutrients. These nutrients can be absorbed directly by the hair, or through taking nutritional supplements. It is recommended that you take a multivitamin in addition to taking multi-minerals and proteins.

The nutrients that your hair requires to shine and grow well are:

Calcium pantothenate, pantothenic acid or vitamin B- 5: These elements help the hair to assimilate and utilize copper. Copper: lack of copper produces brittle and dry hair.

Inositol & Choline: These elements help in hair growth according to nutritionist Adele davis.

Vitamin B- 12: Helps hair growth.

What is Natural skin care?

Beauty & Health No Comments »

Put simply, ‘natural skin care’ is caring for your skin in a natural and chemical-free way. ‘Natural skin care’ advocates enabling the skin to take care of itself (without any assistance from synthetic materials/ chemicals). ‘Natural skin care’ is about inculcation of good habits in the way you lead your day to day life. A lot of natural skin care measures are actually the same as those for body care in general.

So let’s see what these natural skin care measures are.

Well the first and the foremost natural skin care measure is - ‘Drink a lot of water’. Around 8 glasses of water is a must everyday. Water helps in flushing out the toxins from the body, in a natural way. It helps in the overall upkeep of the body and promotes good health for all organs (not just skin).

General cleanliness is another inexpensive way of natural skin care. Daily shower, wearing clean clothes and sleeping on a clean mattress/pillow are all part of general cleanliness. After all, clean skin is the key to keeping the skin disorders at bay.

Regular exercise is the next thing on the cards. Exercise increases the flow of blood that helps in getting rid of body toxins and keeping you healthy. Exercise also helps in beating stress which is the worst enemy of good health.

Healthy food and eating habits are also recommended for natural skin care. Some type of food (e.g. oily food) is know to cause acne and should be avoided as much as possible. Your diet should be a healthy mix of various nutrient providing foods. Raw fruits and vegetables are known to provide freshness to your body and help in getting rid of body toxins.

A good sleep is also instrumental in maintaining good health and in beating stress. As a natural skin care measure, a good sleep delays slacking of skin.

Beating stress is another natural skin care therapy. Stress causes overall damage to body and health. Drinking a lot of water, getting a sound sleep and exercise has already been mentioned as stress busters. Indulging in a warm bubble bath, listening to music and playing your favourite sport are also good ways of beating stress. Yoga is yet another way of beating stress; it is fast gaining popularity amongst the masses.

Avoiding excessive exposure to sun (by wearing long sleeved clothes, hat and umbrella etc), is another natural skin care strategy. Sunscreen lotions are also recommended as necessary.

A lot of traditional and home made natural skin care products/ measures are also known to be very effective. Such measures are not only natural and easy-to-follow, but also relatively inexpensive.

Besides that, a lot of natural skin care products are available in the commercial market. These include things like lavender oil, aloe vera etc., which don’t have any side effects.

Is Bottled Water Good for You?

Beauty & Health No Comments »

When I think of bottled water I think of hot tennis players gulping it down between matches. There certainly is a stigma about bottled water. Sometimes I think that one of the things around it is, rich people drink it. We see all of these rich famous people on television drinking it. Bottled water certainly has become popular. There is no doubting that. I go to the store and I see more brands than I can keep track of. I’ll admit that I have drank a few bottles of this stuff in my day. Mainly I get it if I am out and not near home to get a drink of water. If I am out walking or exercising and don’t have a water source near by.

Is bottled water a rip off? The short answer is yes. There is nothing great about it. The only thing that is great about it is how it has been marketed. They tell us it is the best thing that we can get. It is something we all should drink. You have to keep in mind that these companies are in the business of making money. Their goal is to sell you bottled water. Even if you don’t need it.

Is bottled water better for you than tap water? No, it certainly isn’t. In fact, most bottled water is just tap water. It is filtered and purified so it doesn’t have the taste that the water from your tap has. Anything that will get you to drink more water is great. Though, you must realize that it is nothing more than a waste of money. You aren’t getting something that your body will jump for joy when it gets.

You have to watch what you buy though. Some bottled water has things added to it. Sometimes they will add sugar or other flavorings to it. If it doesn’t taste like pure water, there is something added to it. Sometimes the water will come from a spring or a mountain river. Is this any better for you? Not really. There might be some minerals in it that tap water won’t have. But for the most part it is just the same, but more expensive.

You like the taste of bottled water but you don’t like the taste of your tap water. What do you do? For starters, I would suggest that you don’t run to the store to get more bottled water. There are many products that you are use to filter your tap water. One of my favorites is the pitcher with the filter in it. I’m sure you have seen these on television before. When you pour the water, it goes through a filter.

These tend to be less expensive and easy to use. It doesn’t take much brain power to be able to fill a pitcher with water. Check your local shop, I’m sure that you will find one there. There are also filters that you can put right over your faucet. These tend to be the best thing to use. They are easy to use and easy to replace the filters. You can get these at any Wal Mart or store like that.

There is always the water filtering system. You know, the ones with the pellets and all that garbage. Personally, I think these are a pain in the ass. I don’t know why people get these instead of the smaller faucet units. I know that some people have to use these because of the condition of their water. Sometimes the water is too hard and you need to soften it. Though, that does sound like a plot for a porno movie.

If you don’t like the taste of your water, try filling up the empty bottles that you have from the bottled water with tap water. Stick them in the ice box and get them nice and cold. You will notice that when cold, the water has a different flavor. You might find this to be drinkable. I know your wallet will thank you.

The problem I see with the bottled water is, it is too expensive. They are charging you an arm and a leg for something you can get next to free. Why should you pay for it? Well, you shouldn’t. I don’t know why people don’t feel guilty for buying bottled water. It is one step up from going to a whore.

You should stop drinking the bottled water and see how much money you save just for one month. I find it crazy that there are people around the world dying of starvation and disease and we pay a dollar or more for a bottle of water. That seems so crazy to me.
